Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety can be experienced by everyone, including families of patients in the ICU. Anxiety that is being experienced by the patient's family can lead to disruption of the metabolic system in the body as a result of an increase in the hormone adrenaline. One aspect that is believed to reduce anxiety is the caring behavior of nurses. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the nurse's caring behavior and the anxiety of the patient's family in the intensive care unit.

Method: Type of correlational research with a cross sectional approach. The population is the family of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room of RSUD Sayang Cianjur with a sample of 65 people. Sampling using Accidental sampling. The research instruments were Professional Caring Behavior (PCB) and Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS), Data collection using questionnaires and statistical analysis using Chi-Square (ꭓ2).

Result: The results showed that there was a relationship between the nurse's caring behavior and the anxiety of the patient's family in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room with a p-value of 0.026 (<0.05).

Conclusion: There is a relationship between the nurse's caring behavior and the anxiety of the patient's family in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room.
