Authorship Criteria and Contributorship Policy
Jurnal Health Society is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly authorship and contributorship. The journal adopts internationally recognized principles established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to ensure that authorship accurately reflects individuals' intellectual contributions to published research.
1. Authorship Criteria
Jurnal Health Society follows the ICMJE recommendations, which require that all individuals listed as authors meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
-
Drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.
-
Final approval of the version to be published.
-
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work by ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
All four criteria must be fulfilled to qualify for authorship. Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged rather than listed as authors.
Individuals who meet the first criterion should be given the opportunity to participate in manuscript drafting or critical review, final approval, and accountability for the work.
2. Author Contributions
All submitted manuscripts must include an Author Contributions Statement specifying each author's contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.
Jurnal Health Society encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), which recognizes the following 14 contributor roles:
-
Conceptualization: Development of research ideas, objectives, and overarching research goals.
-
Methodology: Development or design of research methods and methodological approaches.
-
Software: Programming, software development, and implementation of computational tools.
-
Validation: Verification of the reproducibility and reliability of research results.
-
Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, or other formal analytical techniques.
-
Investigation: Conducting research activities, experiments, or data collection.
-
Resources: Provision of materials, participants, instruments, or other research resources.
-
Data Curation: Management, organization, annotation, and preservation of research data.
-
Writing – Original Draft: Preparation and writing of the initial manuscript.
-
Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, and editing of the manuscript.
-
Visualization: Preparation and presentation of figures, tables, and other visual materials.
-
Supervision: Oversight and leadership of research planning and implementation.
-
Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities.
-
Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for the research.
Authors may be assigned multiple roles, and each role may be shared by several contributors. Assignment of CRediT roles does not automatically establish authorship eligibility. All listed authors must independently satisfy the ICMJE authorship criteria.
3. Author Order and Corresponding Author
The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors based on their respective contributions and agreed upon before manuscript submission.
The corresponding author is responsible for communication between the journal and all co-authors throughout the submission, peer-review, publication, and post-publication processes.
The corresponding author must ensure that:
-
All listed authors meet the authorship criteria.
-
All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.
-
All authors agree with the author order and manuscript submission.
-
Author affiliations and contribution statements are accurate.
-
Required ethical approvals, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and funding information are appropriately provided.
-
All authors are informed of significant editorial decisions and manuscript revisions.
The corresponding author serves as the primary contact but does not assume sole responsibility for the scientific integrity of the manuscript.
4. Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a written explanation and approved by all authors, including individuals being added or removed.
The editorial team may request supporting documentation to verify the legitimacy of the proposed changes.
Authorship changes will not be accepted solely for administrative convenience, academic promotion, or other non-scientific considerations.
Requests made after publication will be evaluated in accordance with applicable publication ethics procedures and may require a formal correction notice.
5. Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Jurnal Health Society strictly prohibits unethical authorship practices, including:
-
Gift Authorship: Listing individuals as authors despite their failure to meet the required authorship criteria.
-
Guest Authorship: Including individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility or prestige of the manuscript without qualifying contributions.
-
Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who qualify for authorship or concealing substantial writing contributions that should be disclosed.
-
Coercive Authorship: Pressuring researchers to include individuals as authors without legitimate intellectual contributions.
-
Authorship Misrepresentation: Providing false or misleading information regarding individual contributions, author identities, or affiliations.
Financial support, general supervision, administrative assistance, technical support, or language editing alone does not justify authorship.
6. Acknowledgments and Non-Author Contributions
Individuals who contribute to the research or manuscript preparation but do not meet all authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.
Such contributions may include technical assistance, administrative support, language editing, professional writing assistance, or other relevant support.
Authors must obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgments section before publication.
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence in Manuscript Preparation
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems and large language models, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot fulfill the responsibilities and accountability requirements of human authorship.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of all submitted content, including material developed with AI assistance.
Any use of AI tools that materially contributes to manuscript preparation, data analysis, image generation, or other research-related activities must be transparently disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI Use Policy.
AI-generated content must be critically verified by the authors. The use of AI does not diminish or transfer authorship responsibility.
8. Authorship Disputes and Misconduct
Any suspected authorship misconduct or dispute will be handled in accordance with COPE guidance and the journal's publication ethics procedures.
The editorial team may request explanations, contribution records, or supporting documentation from the authors.
Where disputes cannot be resolved through editorial assessment, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant authors' institutions for investigation.
Depending on the findings, editorial actions may include requesting corrections, suspending manuscript processing, rejecting the submission, publishing a correction or retraction, or taking other appropriate measures consistent with publication ethics standards.
9. Author Responsibility and Accountability
All authors share responsibility for the integrity of the published work and must cooperate with reasonable editorial inquiries concerning the accuracy, reliability, or ethical conduct of the research.
Authors are expected to retain relevant research documentation, respond transparently to post-publication concerns, and cooperate with investigations or corrections when necessary.
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Health Society, all authors confirm that they understand and agree to comply with this Authorship Criteria and Contributorship Policy.
